Emili Teixidor was a teacher and held degrees in law, humanities, and journalism. He cultivated children's and young adult literature, as well as adult literature. In his first role, he won the Joaquim Ruyra Narrative Award for young adults with Les rates malaltes (The Sick Rats) in 1967, as well as the Generalitat de Catalunya Award, the Serra d'Or Critics' Award, and the National Award for Children's and Young Adult Literature in 1997 for L'amiga més amiga de la formiga Piga (The Best Friend of the Ant Miga). L'ocell de foc (published in Spanish as Marcabrú y la hoguera de hielo) was selected by the Germán Sánchez Ruipérez Foundation among the 100 most representative works of Spanish children's literature of the 20th century[3]
