Synopsis "El Mentiroso (in Spanish)"

THAT FOOLS YOU UNTIL THE LAST PAGE.   There are novels impossible to put down even from reading just the first page. Stories that throw suspense for a loop and make the reader question everything each time a chapter ends. In this absolutely original and addictive thriller, Mikel Santiago breaks the limits of psychological intrigue with a story that explores the fragile borders between memory and amnesia, truth and lies.   In the first scene, the protagonist wakes up in an abandoned warehouse next to the dead body of an unknown man, and a bloody stone. When he runs away, he decides to try to reconstruct the facts himself. However, he has a problem: he doesn't remember anything that happened in the last forty-eight hours. And the little that he does know, is better if he keeps it to himself.   This is how this thriller begins which takes us to a coastal town in the Basque Country, amid winding roads on the edge of cliffs and houses with cracked walls due to stormy nights: a small community where it seems that nobody keeps secrets from anyone, . . . or maybe they do.

Mikel Santiago was born in Portugalete (Vizcaya) in 1975. From a young age, he showed artistic inclinations, alternating his interest in literature with music, playing guitar in rock bands and balancing his creative vocation with studies in Sociology at the University of Deusto. He lived a decade in Ireland and the Netherlands, experiences that shaped his cosmopolitan vision and narrative style. He currently resides in Bilbao with his family, where he continues to write and play with his band

Mikel Santiago began his literary career by publishing stories and short novels on the internet, managing to position himself on the bestseller lists of platforms like Amazon and Barnes & Noble, in Spain as well as the United States and Latin America. His leap to traditional publishing came in 2014, when he published The Last Night at Tremore Beach, a novel that marked his consecration and was translated into more than 20 languages. Santiago is considered one of the great renovators of the thriller in Spanish, with a narrative that combines mystery, unexpected twists, and an immersive setting, especially in northern Spain scenarios

Ediciones B has published his novels The Last Night at Tremore Beach (2014), The Bad Path (2015), The Strange Summer of Tom Harvey (2017), The Island of the Last Voices (2018), and The Liar (2020). All of them have climbed to the top spots on the bestseller lists in Spain, have been published in about twenty countries, and have equally captivated readers and literary critics. Currently, he is considered one of the best international thriller authors

Throughout his career, he has won awards such as the Atea-Laboral Kutxa Saria Award in 2024, the La Sombra del Ciprés Award in 2016, and the IV Award for the Best National Thriller by Martaentrelibros and Friends in 2024.
