Malba Tahan
Julio César de Mello y Souza, better known by his pseudonym Malba Tahan, was a Brazilian writer and teacher specialized in mathematics. He wrote his works under this pseudonym to draw attention to his educational work in his home country as it was a foreign name. An Arab identity he invented for this purpose and having researched Arab culture and language for over seven years.
Mello wrote 69 storybooks, 541 mathematics books, and various books on other subjects. In 1995, he sold more than two million copies of his publications. His most famous work is The Man Who Counted, a story focused on mathematics and revolving around Arab culture. After receiving multiple accolades and his true identity becoming known, the author legally added the name Malba Tahan.
