Mello wrote 69 storybooks, 541 mathematics books, and various books on other subjects. In 1995, he sold more than two million copies of his publications. His most famous work is The Man Who Counted, a story focused on mathematics and revolving around Arab culture. After receiving multiple accolades and his true identity becoming known, the author legally added the name Malba Tahan.
