Bearing the Cross - Book One: Valparaíso (Part 1) tells the true story of how Dr. John M. Cobin’s life of scholarship, ministry, and family was overturned in a single moment of self-defense - and how he came to enter one of Chile’s hardest prisons. An American-born economist of Italian descent who earned his PhD in public policy, a Baptist pastor, a father of seven and grandfather of seven, Cobin opens with an unflinching autobiographical introduction before the doors of Valparaíso close behind him. He carries the reader into Cell Blocks 118 and 109, where dignity, faith, and the will to survive are tested daily. Wrongly imprisoned for more than five years on charges his own physical evidence and forensics refute, Cobin writes with clarity and conviction. This first volume is the harrowing beginning of one man’s long walk through injustice. First Edition.
