Alasdair Gray (1934–2019) fue un escritor, pintor y dramaturgo escocés, reconocido por su originalidad y su profunda conexión con Glasgow, ciudad que aparece frecuentemente como escenario de su obra. Nacido y criado en el oeste de Glasgow, Gray estudió en la Escuela de Arte de Glasgow, donde comenzó a desarrollar tanto su estilo literario como artístico.

Su primera novela, Lanark: A Life in Four Books, publicada en 1981 tras casi 30 años de trabajo, lo consagró como una de las voces más singulares de la literatura contemporánea.
