Afiches es un poemario que presenta varios planos, partiendo de una visión neorromántica. Desde el título, vaga alusión a las "Iluminaciones" de Rimbaud, hay referencias indirectas o directas a él; por tanto, el texto es también homenaje al poeta simbolista; preferido del autor. Por otra parte, el sujeto lírico es un ente ficticio, una conciencia, que a través de diversos tonos refleja preocupaciones colectivas, refiriéndose a la ecología, al armamentismo y las guerras; va de la esperanza a la denuncia. Sobre todo, el conjunto está gobernado por la nostalgia de la patria cultural caribeña. Gravedad e ironía equilibran el texto.
