James Block, célebre atleta negro, es rechazado por la mujer que ama a causa del color de su piel. Loco de rabia, mata accidentalmente a un hombre y acaba en la cárcel. La injusticia y la desesperación hacen nacer en él un odio indecible hacia el género humano. Un anciano, compañero de prisión, le lega un rayo que puede hacerle invisible, un invento que le permitirá vengarse de la humanidad bajo el nombre de Alabaster. Tezuka crea un villano complejo, perverso y muy humano, a medio camino entre Fantomas y El hombre invisible. La serialización de Alabaster en la revista Weekly Shonen Champion en 1970 y 1971, desató la controversia entre los fans de Tezuka, sorprendidos de que el creador del mundo optimista de Astroboy hubiera realizado un manga rebosante de maldad y desprovisto de héroes.

Creator of iconic characters like Astro Boy (Tetsuwan Atom) and Black Jack, Tezuka blended science fiction, ethics, medicine, and philosophy in stories that marked generations. His legacy continues to live in the aesthetics and depth of current manga and anime.
