Kreon ist der neue Tyrann von Theben. Sein verstorbener Neffe Polyneikes hat Krieg gegen die eigene Stadt geführt, also verbietet Kreon seine Bestattung. Antigone hält sich nicht an das Verbot - sie hält ohnehin wenig vom neuen Tyrannen.
