Synopsis "Behind The Badge"

Two teenagers escaped a sheriff's deputy. Two months later, two other girls disappeared.Susan Place's mother had seen the man with her daughter. More importantly, she had written down the license plate of his car.It led investigators to Gerard Schaefer. What they found next transformed a double-murder investigation into something far larger: women's belongings, human teeth, disturbing writings-and possible connections to disappearances stretching back years.Schaefer was convicted of two murders. But investigators suspected there could be more. How many cases truly led back to him-and how many became part of a legend that grew beyond the evidence?Behind the Badge follows the survivors, the investigation, the trial and the unresolved cases surrounding one of Florida's most disturbing criminal investigations.A story of survival, murder, evidence-and the terrifying distance between what is suspected and what can actually be proved.
