Se edita aquí una gramática de la lengua guaraní del siglo XVIII conservada en sendos manuscritos, uno de la Biblioteca Jagiellońska de la Universidad de Cracovia (perdido hasta hace poco) y otro de la Thüringer Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek (THULB) de Jena. Su autor, Francisco Legal, es un jesuita nacido en Asunción, con conocimientos lingüísticos que, aun en la línea de la tradición de la lingüística misionera, son propios de un nativo que tiene conciencia lingüística de su propio idioma, el guaraní, que conoce con la competencia que le da el uso de la lengua materna.
