Synopsis "Carol (in Spanish)"

Carol es una novela de amor entre mujeres que se lee con la misma fascinada atención que despiertan las novelas --policiacas-- de su autora. Highsmith concibió carol en 1948, cuando tenía veintisiete años y había terminado su primera novela, extraños en un tren. Se encontraba sin dinero, y se empleó durante una temporada en la sección de juguetes de unos grandes almacenes. Un día, una elegante mujer rubia envuelta en visones entró a comprar una muñeca, dio un nombre y una dirección para que se la enviaran y se marchó. Patricia hisghsmith se fue a casa y escribió de un tirón el argumento completo de carol, que comienza precisamente con el encuentro ente therese, una joven escenógrafa que trabaja accidentalmente como vendedora, y carol, la elegante y sofisticada mujer, recién divorciada, que entra a comprar una muñeca para su hija y cambia para siempre el cuerso de la vida de la joven vendedora.

She was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1921, but moved to New York when she was six years old. By the age of sixteen, she became a writer. She was known for being a solitary person. She moved to Europe in 1963 and spent her last years in a secluded house near Locarno, on the border between Switzerland and Italy. Upon her death, she left three million dollars from her estate to Yaddo, the artists' community in upstate New York. Her first novel Strangers on a Train, was turned into a famous movie by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951. Her last novel Small g: A Summer Idyll was published posthumously just over a month later.
