Jerry Craft is a renowned American author and illustrator, born on January 22, 1963 in New York. He is especially known for his comic strip "Mama's Boyz" (1990-2013). In 2019, Craft published the graphic novel "New Kid", which in 2020 became the first comic to win the prestigious Newbery Medal, awarded to the most distinguished contribution to children's literature. Additionally, "New Kid" received the Coretta Scott King Award for outstanding author and the Kirkus Prize for Young Readers' Literature in 2019. Among his other notable works are "Class Act" (2020) and "School Trip" (2023), both graphic novels that continue to explore themes of diversity and adaptation in school settings.
