Michael McDowell was a true monster of literature. Endowed with boundless creativity, he wrote thousands of pages, with a capacity on the level of a Balzac or a Dumas. Like them, he chose to tell stories that would reach the entire world. And, like them, he chose the most popular medium of dissemination: the serial or serialized novel, in the case of the nineteenth-century masters; the paperback in the case of McDowell. Besides being a novelist, Michael McDowell was an acclaimed screenwriter. (California, 1960) American comic artist and writer. He published his first drawings in the fanzine The Comic Reader and made his professional debut in 1982 for Marvel as an inker. Later, he drew series such as Hulk and Alpha Flight for the same label. After a brief stint at the short-lived First Comics, in 1987 he moved on to collaborate with DC Comics illustrating miniseries like Superman and Batman. He returned to Marvel and worked on issues of Dr. Strange. In 1993, he created his most famous work for Dark Horse: Hellboy, whose first miniseries would be scripted by John Byrne but which he would end up doing as a complete author.
