Synopsis "Dhamorakshati (in Hindi)"

यदुवंशियों में श्रेष्ठ महाराज शूरसेन के यहाँ एक कन्या 'पृथा' ने जन्म लिया। उन्होंने अपने निस्संतान फुफेरे भाई राजा कुंतिभोज को वह कन्या दे दी। कुंतिभोज ने पृथा का बड़े प्यार से लालन-पालन किया। आयु के साथ-साथ उनके गुण भी बढ़ते गए। वयस्क होने पर कुंतिभोज ने पृथा को देवताओं के पूजन और अतिथियों के सत्कार का कार्य सौंपा। एक समय वहाँ महर्षि दुर्वासा आए। पृथा उनकी सेवा करने लगी। पृथा की सेवा से दुर्वासा संतुष्ट हुए। उन्होंने उस पर भावी संकट का विचार कर उसे एक वशीकरण मंत्र दिया और उसके प्रयोग की विधि भी बता दी। उन्होंने कहा, "शुभे, इस मंत्र द्वारा तुम जिस देवता का आह्वान करोगी, उसके अनुग्रह से तुम्हें पुत्र प्राप्त होगा। आज से तुम 'कुंती' कही जाओगी।" दुर्वासा ऋषि के चले जाने पर कौतूहलवश कुंती ने सूर्यदेव का आह्वान किया। तत्क्षण ही भगवान् भास्कर को अपने सम्मुख उपस्थित देख कुंती चकित हो गई। उसने हाथ जोड़कर कहा, "देव, ऋषि दुर्वासा के मंत्र-बल की परीक्षा करने के लिए मैंने अनायास ही आपका आह्वान किया है। मेरे अपराध को आप क्षमा कीजिए।" - इसी पुस्तक से
