Synopsis "Discursos sobre la Primera Década de Tito Livio (in Spanish)"

En contraste con la defensa de la monarquía que hace Maquiavelo en El príncipe, los Discursos proponen la república como el sistema político ideal, dado que, bien organizada, permite participar tanto a grandes como a comunes para contener así los conflictos políticos habituales entre ellos. No obstante, la república debe gozar de las instituciones necesarias para canalizar dicha participación, algo que la monarquía, la aristocracia, la tiranía o la democracia no lograrían dada su inestabilidad. Es comprensible entonces que la oposición a la república que el autor parece plasmar en El príncipe haya generado un debate intenso en torno a la coherencia de su pensamiento y a la posible conciliación de ambas obras. Algo posible si admitimos que la verdadera preocupación del italiano era la creación de un Estado moderno en la Italia de su tiempo.
