Synopsis "El Teniente Sturm (in Spanish)"

Durante la primera guerra mundial, en las trincheras del frente de Flandes, el joven teniente Sturm aprovecha las pausas en los combates para anotar sus observaciones sobre la guerra, contemplada ésta como ley universal, y sobre el Estado moderno, una maquinaria esclavizadora del individuo en la era de la técnica. Lector voraz de Baudelaire o Huysmans, antiguo estudiante de zoología en Heidelberg, Sturm (álter ego de Jünger) es también un escritor en ciernes al que le gusta leer a dos oficiales amigos suyos esbozos de una novela que está escribiendo. Roído por la contradicción constante entre vida activa y vida contemplativa, Sturm recrea en esos pasajes, leídos al abrigo de las trincheras, una concepción vitalista y aventurera de la existencia, el vértigo de la vida en las ciudades, ''ese perpetuo ardor de la gran urbe'', escenario expresionista donde los impulsos artísticos de las mentes se mezclan con una incansable sensualidad de los cuerpos: una fórmula desesperada para huir del tiempo y del dolor.'

(Heidelberg, Germany 1895 - Riedlingen, Germany, 1998) Writer, philosopher, soldier, and German historian. Volunteered in World War I, was wounded several times and decorated. In 1923, he began studies in zoology and philosophy at the University of Leipzig and later moved to Berlin, where he began to establish his career as a writer. In 1941, he joined the German high command in Paris, although a year later the Nazi regime banned the publication of his works. The diaries contained in Radiations I and II masterfully reflect the experience of those difficult years. After the war, Jünger combined stays in the small Swabian town of Wilflingen with travels around the world and the writing of a set of novels, essays, and diaries that have made him one of the most lucid, exciting, and controversial witnesses of our time.
