Stephen King (Portland, Maine, September 21, 1947) is one of the most influential and prolific authors of contemporary literature, famous for revitalizing the horror genre and captivating millions of readers worldwide. He graduated in English Language from the University of Maine and worked as a teacher before dedicating himself fully to writing after the success of his first novel, Carrie (1974). Throughout his career, King has received numerous accolades, including the National Book Award for contributions to American literature (2003), the National Medal of Arts (2015), and dozens of Bram Stoker, World Fantasy, British Fantasy, and Edgar awards, among others.
