La América Latina se apresuró a convertir en mármol aquella carne demasiado ardiente, y desde entonces no hubo plaza que no estuviera centrada por su imagen, civil y pensativa, o por su efigie ecuestre, alta sobre los Andes. William Ospina Buitrago (Herveo, Tolima, 1954) is a Colombian poet, essayist, and novelist, known for his deep reflection on history and Latin American identity. His work spans poetry, essays, and novels, standing out for its lyrical style and commitment to cultural and social themes. He has been awarded the National Poetry Prize by the Colombian Institute of Culture in 1992 for El país del viento and the Rómulo Gallegos Prize in 2009 for his novel El país de la canela.

Among his most notable works is the trilogy on the conquest of America: Ursúa (2005), El país de la canela (2008), and La serpiente sin ojos (2012). In the field of essays, titles such as ¿Dónde está la franja amarilla? (1996) and En busca de Bolívar (2010) stand out. His most recent novel, Pondré mi oído en la piedra hasta que hable (2023), continues to explore the complexities of Latin American history and culture.
