Synopsis "En Vísperas (in Spanish)"

Dos jóvenes amigos, un escultor con talento pero algo tarambana y un recién licenciado en Filosofía, están enamorados de Yelena Nikoláievna Stájova, un "alma sensible", noble, amante de la naturaleza y de los que sufren.

Yelena encuentra frívolo a uno de ellos, y cada vez más interesante al otro, pero entonces se cruza en su camino un tercero -otro joven, comprometido en la liberación de Bulgaria del Imperio turco- y queda impresionada por su determinación y sus convicciones: "es auténtico, ardiente, es un ideal vivo".

Mientras tanto, sus padres preparan su boda con un alto funcionario... Alrededor de Yelena y sus cuatro admiradores, Turguénev recreó en En vísperas (1860), su tercera novela, un enfrentamiento generacional que los críticos de la época vieron como una alegoría de la Rusia que estaba por llegar (de ahí el título de la obra), encarnada no precisamente en un hombre sino en un mujer.

Su heroína, rebelde a la obediencia, capaz de decidir y de actuar hasta límites extremos, fue muy polémica e instauró un modelo hasta entonces ajeno no solo a la literatura rusa sino a la europea en general.

Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev (1818-1883) was a Russian novelist, playwright, and poet, recognized for his role in 19th century realistic literature. His most influential work is Fathers and Sons (1862), which introduced the concept of nihilism and marked a milestone in Russian narrative. Other notable works include Diary of a Superfluous Man (1850), A Nest of the Gentry (1859), and Torrents of Spring (1872), among others.

Turgenev primarily wrote novels, stories, and plays, characterized by an elegant style and a deep psychological exploration of the characters. His work influenced authors like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky. Although he lived much of his life in Europe, his writings accurately captured the Russian society of his time.
