Synopsis "Fedro (in Spanish)"

Junto con Fedón, Banquete y República, Fedro ocupa un lugar preeminente entre los Diálogos de Platón (c. 427 - 347 a. C.). Aunque se ha insistido mucho sobre la dificultad de determinar el tema a partir del cual se organiza esta conversación, que se prolonga durante un día entero y versa sobre el amor, la retórica y la naturaleza de la escritura, el diálogo se divide en dos partes que se oponen y complementan. En la primera, Sócrates inicia en los misterios de la belleza al joven Lisias, que ha elaborado un discurso en contra de Eros. La segunda parte está consagrada a una discusión sobre el arte de la palabra, en donde Sócrates elabora un recuento de las ventajas y desventajas de la retórica.

Plato (Athens, ca. 427 BC – ca. 347 BC) was a Greek philosopher, a disciple of Socrates and teacher of Aristotle, whose work deeply influenced Western philosophy. He founded the Academy of Athens, one of the first educational institutions of the ancient world. His philosophical legacy is conveyed through dialogues, a literary genre in which he developed ideas about ethics, politics, epistemology, and metaphysics.

Among his most recognized works are Apology of Socrates, Crito, and The Symposium, all written approximately between 399 and 385 BC, in addition to The Republic and Phaedo. Through the character of Socrates, Plato explores themes that remain central in philosophical thought. His influence endures to this day, although he received no formal awards, given the historical context.

El libro llegó en buenas condiciones. La edición, como todas las de la colección de "Textos clásicos" de Gredos, está muy bien cuidada: Solo en la página 24 hay un pequeño error de formato, pero nada que entorpezca la lectura. El prólogo empero no es de los mejores que he leído en los libros de esta colección, pues resulta algo críptico en momentos para alguien que recién se adentra en la lectura de Platón. Las notas del traductor son, en este mismo sentido, bastante técnicas. Incluye la paginación de Stephanus y el apéndice "Vida y obra de Platón" que forma parte también de los demás diálogos platónicos de esta colección (Apología, Banquete y Fedón).
