Eduardo Humberto del Río García, known as Rius (1934–2017), was an influential Mexican cartoonist, comic strip creator, and writer. Self-taught and a sharp critic, he tackled political, social, and cultural issues with humor and clarity. Among his most notable works are Cuba para principiantes (1966), Marx para principiantes (1972), La panza es primero (1972), Filosofía para principiantes (1985), and Rius en pedacitos (2014), a personal anthology of drawings. His style combined simple illustrations with accessible texts, making him a pioneer of graphic dissemination in Latin America.
Rius was the founder of magazines such as Los Supermachos and Los Agachados, where he openly criticized the Mexican political system, imperialism, and organized religion. Throughout his career, he received awards such as the National Journalism Award of Mexico in 1987 and 2010, and the La Catrina Award in 2004.
