Deren Schicksale sind vielfach miteinander verbunden, wie Puppen eines Matroschka-Sets. 1640-48: Der junge Wissenschaftler Georg Markgraf, der das Deutschland des drei igjährigen Krieges hinter sich gelassen hat, verfolgt in Brasilien die Wiedererschaffung des Paradieses in der Neuen Welt. 1938-1973: Alfred Blau flüchtet vor den Nationalsozialisten aus Wien nach Mexiko und baut, inspiriert vom Nachlass des Georg Markgraf, ein neues Leben auf. 2002/2003: Der Student Sebastian Mold, mit einem Forschungsauftrag zur deutschsprachigen Emigration in Mexiko, wird Opfer des Mythos der Federkrone des Moctezuma.
