Laura Soto Sedeño (Mexico, 1992) is one of the most influential Mexican poets of her generation, known for her intimate and empowering voice. About three years ago, she founded the social media account @whatapoem, where she shares poems, thoughts, and favorite readings, building a community that exceeds 300,000 followers between Instagram and TikTok.
She studied Law due to family vocation, but after working in law firms and advertising—as a copywriter—she felt that none of this fulfilled her creative essence. At 27, she faced personal health and emotional blocks that eventually led her to write her first poem. It was then that she discovered that writing would be her life's path.
Her editorial debut was the poetry book Primero tuve que morir, published in May 2024, a work that combines poetry, brief narratives, and reflection exercises aimed at themes such as self-love, trauma, resilience, and emotional health.
With sensitivity and courage, the author shares her experience of personal transformation as an example for those going through difficult times.
