Cornelia Funke was born in the German town of Dorsten in 1958. She studied higher education in pedagogy and illustration and soon began working as a book illustrator and writing for a younger audience.

She is the author of more than 40 books that have been translated into 30 languages and numerous television scripts. One of the scripts that has been made into a film is Inkheart. By 2025, she received recognition from Time magazine as one of the hundred most influential people in the world.

Her books have received numerous awards such as the BookSense, Book of the Year Children's Literature, USA 2006; Silver Slate, Dutch award for children's literature 2006 or the best book of the year 2005 at the Disney Adventures Book Awards for Inkspell.

Cornelia Funke nació el 10 de diciembre de 1958 en Dorsten. Es una de las autoras alemanas más reconocidas internacionalmente en el ámbito de la literatura infantil y juvenil. Estudió pedagogía y posteriormente ilustración, trabajando durante varios años como ilustradora de libros infantiles antes de dedicarse por completo a la escritura.

Alcanzó fama mundial gracias a sus novelas de fantasía y aventura, caracterizadas por la riqueza de sus mundos imaginarios, personajes memorables y tramas llenas de emoción. Entre sus obras más conocidas se encuentra la trilogía iniciada con Corazón de Tinta, que narra la historia de una joven capaz de interactuar con personajes que salen de los libros al ser leídos en voz alta. La novela fue un éxito internacional y dio origen a secuelas y adaptaciones cinematográficas.
