Wil Huygen, cuyo nombre completo era Willibrord Joseph Huygen, fue un escritor neerlandés nacido en 1922 en Amersfoort y fallecido en 2009 en Bilthoven. De formación médico, ejerció durante años antes de consolidar una carrera literaria centrada en la literatura infantil y fantástica. Su obra se caracteriza por una mezcla singular de rigor casi científico y fantasía, influida tanto por su experiencia profesional como por su interés en la naturaleza. Desarrolló gran parte de su producción en colaboración con el ilustrador Rien Poortvliet, formando un dúo creativo ampliamente reconocido.

Es autor de Los gnomos, publicado originalmente en 1976, una obra que alcanzó gran éxito internacional y permaneció durante meses en listas de superventas.
