Der Ruf dieses Mannes ist legendär: Er ist der Godfather of Gore! Vor Herschell Gordon Lewis war die Leinwand unschuldig. Verhaltene Gewalt und herumhüpfende Nackedeis waren das Höchste der Gefühle - bis er kam. Lewis war kein Filmemacher aus Leidenschaft, niemand, der seine Passion erkannt hat und sie ausleben wollte. Vielmehr hatte er die praktischen Seiten des Filmgeschäfts erkannt und wollte damit Geld verdienen. Mit nichts konnte man das besser, als mit dem Brechen von Tabus. Vor Herschell Gordon Lewis war der Horrorfilm unbefleckt, mit ihm wurde jedoch der Splatterfilm geboren. Mit Blood Feast trat Lewis im Jahr 1963 eine Lawine los, die das Gesicht des Horrorkinos für alle Zeiten verändern sollte. Er lie zahlreiche blutrünstige Streifen wie 2000 Maniacs, The Gore Gore Girls oder The Wizard of Gore folgen, bevor er sich in den 1970er vom Filmgeschäft zurückzog und auf die Werbung konzentrierte. In den letzten Jahren seines Lebens kehrte er jedoch zum Film zurück und bewies erneut, wieso er der Godfather of Gore ist!
