La chirurgia pre-protesica comprende le procedure chirurgiche che hanno lo scopo di ridefinire i tessuti molli o duri o entrambi per alleviare le interferenze biologiche in modo che l'individuo possa accettare una protesi confortevole. Nei primi tempi veniva regolarmente eseguita nella specialità della chirurgia orale e maxillo-facciale. Ma l'avvento dell'implantologia ha relegato questo settore in un angolo meno frequentato, ma alcune procedure restano comunque valide e indispensabili. La gestione protesica in alcuni casi pone una grande sfida nel trovare stabilità e ritenzione, che a sua volta può essere successivamente catapultata dalle manovre della categoria pre-protesica.
