Synopsis "La Ciudad Amarga: Relectura Personal de Neruda (in Spanish)"

Gastón Soublette (Antofagasta, 1927–Limache, 2025) was a Chilean philosopher, musicologist, and aesthete, known for his deep study of popular culture, Eastern spirituality, and national identity. For over seven decades, he taught at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, where he also directed the Institute of Aesthetics. His work spans genres such as essays, philosophy, and cultural research. In 2023, he was awarded the National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences, in recognition of his vast contribution to critical thinking and cultural dissemination in Chile.

Among his most notable works are Chilean Wisdom of Oral Tradition (2003), which compiles stories and proverbs from national folklore; The Star of Chile (1984), a study on national symbols and their connection with the Mapuche worldview; and The Preexistent Christ (2019), where he explores the figure of Jesus from a non-dogmatic spiritual perspective. Soublette also addressed topics such as Taoism in Tao Te King: Book of Tao and Its Virtue (2007) and the contemporary crisis in Manifesto: Dangers and Opportunities of the Megacrisis (2022). His legacy endures as a bridge between ancient wisdom and the challenges of the present.
