Synopsis "La novena (in Spanish)"

La Novena Por Marcela Serrano, Producto de un accidente absurdo Miguel Flores, un estudiante universitario, es detenido en una protesta contra la dictadura de Pinochet. Tras unos días en el calabozo del cuartel policial es enviado a una zona agrícola cercana a la capital, pero aislada de toda actividad política. Sin recursos y obligado a firmar a diario en el retén de Carabineros, sus días transcurren en soledad y con el mínimo para subsistir. Su presencia genera temor u odio entre los lugareños, salvo en Amelia, una mujer de mediana edad, viuda y dueña del fundo La Novena. Ella acoge al relegado, le abre las puertas de su casa y con ello las de un mundo cultural y social que representa todo lo que Miguel más detesta. Poco a poco la relación entre ellos hace que él cuestione sus prejuicios, en tanto que sus sentimientos pasan del profundo deseo de odiarla a una atracción y un vínculo permanente. Pero el azar y la actividad política de Miguel provocarán un giro en extremo, doloroso e irreparable para ambos.

Marcela Serrano (1951) is a Chilean writer known for her feminist and social-themed novels, where she explores the lives of women, politics, and identity. Her first novel, Nosotras que nos queremos tanto (1991), was a success and established her as one of the most prominent authors in contemporary Latin American literature. Other major works include Para que no me olvides (1993), Antigua vida mía (1995), and El albergue de las mujeres tristes (1997), all focusing on female psychology and human relationships.

Throughout her career, she has published numerous novels, such as Diez mujeres (2011) and El manto (2022), maintaining her introspective style and interest in women's struggles. Her work has been translated into several languages and has been recognized in various literary circles.
