Augusto Monterroso (1921-2003) was a Honduran writer naturalized Guatemalan and exiled in Mexico. He is recognized as one of the masters of microfiction, noted for his concise and profound prose.

Monterroso received several awards, such as the Magda Donato Award (1970) and the Xavier Villaurrutia Award (1975). In 2000, he was honored with the Prince of Asturias Award for Literature, acknowledging his literary contribution. His work has been translated into multiple languages and continues to be the subject of study and admiration in the literary field.
