Marguerite Duras (1914-1996) was a French writer, screenwriter, and filmmaker, known for her innovative style and exploration of memory, desire, and identity. Her most famous work is The Lover (1984), an autobiographical novel that won the prestigious Goncourt Prize. Other notable works include Hiroshima mon amour (1960), The Ravishing of Lol V. Stein (1964), and The Vice-Consul (1966), which solidified her reputation in contemporary literature.

Duras ventured into cinema, writing and directing films with an experimental approach. Her narrative, characterized by minimalist and evocative prose, influenced literature and cinema in the 20th century.
