«El mundo de Kafka es, en verdad, un universo indecible donde el hombre se da el lujo torturante de pescar en una bañera, a sabiendas de que no saldrá nada.»Albert Camus La transformación, o metamorfosis, de Gregor Samsa en un bicho monstruoso, similar a un enorme escarabajo, es uno de los hitos de la literatura universal. Franz Kafka escribió el relato en 1915 y fue publicado primero en la revista mensual Die Wei#en Blätter. En noviembre de ese mismo año se imprimió como libro exento, bajo el sello de la editorial Kurt Wolff y fechado anticipadamente en 1916. En este volumen, la más conocida y divulgada pesadilla kafkiana es objeto de una nueva traducción a cargo de Juan José del Solar, que ha tenido presentes las novedades que sobre la obra de Kafka arroja la edición crítica de la editorial S. Fischer, edición que ha obligado, felizmente, a reeditar bajo nuevos parámetros la obra del autor considerado, unánimemente, como el más emblemático del siglo XX.

His work, among the most influential in world literature, is a pioneer in the fusion of realistic elements with fantastic ones and focuses mainly on father-son conflicts, anxiety, existentialism, physical and psychological brutality, guilt, the philosophy of the absurd, bureaucracy, and spiritual transformations. He wrote notable novels and a large number of short stories, and also left behind extensive correspondence and autobiographical writings. His unique literary style has often been associated with the artistic philosophy of existentialism and expressionism. His personal relationships also had a significant impact on his writing. The term Kafkaesque is used in Spanish to describe bizarre situations, due to their absurdity and distressing nature.
