Beim vorliegenden Buch handelt es sich um Band II (1940-45) der Erinnerungen des Hans-Günther UNGER. Nach dem Frankreich-Feldzug und der Zeit als Besatzungstruppe erfolgte der Unterstellungswechsel des Gebirgsjäger-Regiments 100 von der 1. zur 5. Gebirgsdivision. Es folgten der Feldzug gegen Griechenland sowie die Besetzung Kretas. Anschlie end wurde das Regiment nach Russland in den Raum Leningrad verlegt und zum Teil bataillonsweise mit wechselnden Unterstellungen als "Feuerwehr" missbraucht. Das letzte Kriegsjahr und das Kriegsende in Italien machte der Autor nicht mehr mit, weil er aufgrund seiner Verwundungen entlassen wurde und als SA-Angehöriger bzw. Führer im Volkssturm Verwendung fand.
