Synopsis "Lectures On Psychoanalysis"

The doctor soon hit upon the fact that through such cleansing of the soul more could be accomplished than a temporary removal of the constantly recurring mental "clouds." Symptoms of the disease would disappear when in hypnosis the patient could be made to remember the situation and the associative connections under which they first appeared, provided free vent was given to the emotions which they aroused. "There was in the summer a time of intense heat, and the patient had suffered very much from thirst; for, without any apparent reason, she had suddenly become unable to drink. She would take a glass of water in her hand, but as soon as it touched her lips she would push it away as though suffering from hydrophobia.

Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) was an Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis. His work falls within the genre of psychology and philosophy of mind, revolutionizing the understanding of the unconscious. Among his most influential books are The Interpretation of Dreams (1899), Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905), and Civilization and Its Discontents (1930). He also wrote The Psychopathology of Everyday Life (1901) and Beyond the Pleasure Principle (1920), fundamental in the evolution of psychoanalytic thought.

Throughout his career, Freud developed key concepts such as the id, the ego, and the superego, in addition to the theory of the Oedipus complex. His ideas influenced multiple disciplines, from literature to modern psychiatry.
