It is a story of a 19 year old Indian boy Dev, residing in New Delhi. He finds himself stuck between his preferences in life and expectations of his parents and elder brother. Because of average score in school, he is not able to get admission in an engineering college like his elder brother who is studying in the most reputed college of the city. He does not like his position in family and friends either. Engulfed into the streams of intense competition and social pressures, he struggles to mark his existence. His father, Mr. Yashkant Sethi is rich punjabi businessman who enjoys spending his evenings consuming alcohol and watching cricket on television. He is always found annoyed with this younger child, Dev because of his ignorant and disrespectful attitude. On the other hand, there is mother of Dev, Mrs. Mira Sethi, who is a typical North Indian housewife, happily enslaved under the notion of duty, family and its cause. She is the mother of the house and loves everyone equally. Yet she is always found running at the command of her husband and is primarily responsible for the proper functioning of the house. Next is the elder brother of Dev, Nishant Sethi, a god gifted child with innumerable capabilities in academic and non academic fields. Hence, being the younger brother, Dev is always compared with the elder one, which further aggravates the anxiety of the poor soul. Fights on domination of space have created permanent differences between the two brothers and apparently Dev hates his brother. Another important character is Dev's cousin, Ronit Sethi. A stylish and notorious brat who is poles apart from the traits of Dev but makes a more friendly alliance with Nishant and thus making Dev feel more alienated. Ronit's sister is Aditi, another studious individual who is never interested in any irrational non sense behavior and always indulge in only meaningful conversations. Apart form them, Dev encounters the advent of love in his life in the form of a cute girl, Stuti, who reside in her neighborhood. But the problem arises when Dev indulges in a fight with Stuti's cousins on a minor issue and thus makes his path of love much tougher. Storyline throws light upon the society around a young adult of urban India and his various aspirations and frustrations in life. It describes emotions and believes hidden behinds various rituals and common practices of the people. To give a vivid expression of the life of Dev, the language used in the story is bit Indianized in character. Moreover, as the main protagonist is a poet, his feelings are often expressed in poetical fashion. Innumerable reasons cause depression for Dev and pushes him till the verge his decision of committing suicide. But various experiences encourage him to understand the importance of life and solve the entangled threads of his relationship with his family and friends with patience and solidarity. This lesson is thus termed as 'Lesson Zero of Life' as it is most important to understand that life is made up of moments, and moments are made by respecting the same. This is story of fall and rise of a young poet in love, in life and in spirit!
