Rodrigo Fresán was born in Buenos Aires in 1963 and has lived in Barcelona since 1999. He is the author of the books Historia argentina, Vidas de santos, Trabajos manuales, Esperanto, La velocidad de las cosas, Mantra (Nuevo Talento Fnac Award 2002), Jardines de Kensington (Lateral Narrative Award 2004, finalist Premio Fundación José Manuel Lara), El fondo del cielo (Locus Magazine Favorite Speculative Fiction in Translation Novel 2018, USA) and the trilogy La Parte Contada, consisting of La parte inventada (Best Translated Book Award 2018, USA), La parte soñada, and La parte recordada
The jury of the Best Translated Book Award praised La parte inventada with the citation: "Fresán is a master". In 2017, Fresán received the Prix Roger Caillois in France for his entire body of work for being an "atypical, transgressive, and unavoidable writer"
