Luna Comanche recibió en 1998 el más prestigioso de los premios que se entregan en el ámbito de la literatura western, el Spur Award, y la CBS realizó una miniserie de TV en 2008.
Luna Comanche es la cuarta y última entrega en orden de publicación de la saga de Lonesome Dove, iniciada en 1985 por Larry McMurtry, que recoge la azarosa vida y aventuras de dos rangers de Texas, Woodrow Call y Augustus «Gus» McCrae, en los primeros años del Estado de la Estrella Solitaria. Aunque, si nos atenemos a la cronología de la narración, la presente novela se situaría temporalmente entre La Jornada del Muerto y Lonesome Dove, ambas ya publicadas en la colección Frontera.
Luna Comanche puede leerse como una novela independiente y en ella seremos testigos de las nuevas andanzas de Gus y Call, que ya no son dos rangers novatos como en La Jornada del Muerto; ambos se han convertido en curtidos rangers que prestan servicio en los más complicados años del enfrentamiento con las tribus indias.
El título hace referencia a la luna llena de otoño, cuando los caballos de los guerreros comanches y sus aliados kiowas han disfrutado de un periodo de buenos pastos y están en plenitud de fuerza. Entonces, la claridad de la luna se convierte en una valiosa aliada de las temidas razias nocturnas que emprenden bandas de jinetes indios por el territorio de Texas y el norte de México en busca de gloria, sangre y botín. Días que para la población blanca de aquellas tierras se convierten en jornadas de terror, alarma y un estado de alerta permanente. Los comanches, liderados en aquellos años por el gran jefe Joroba de Búfalo, fueron conocidos con el apelativo de «los señores de las praderas» y llegaron a forjar un imperio de jinetes nómadas y fronteras difusas que se impuso y sometió a tributo a otros pueblos indí¬genas. Pero aquellos días de gloria ya están tocando a su fin...

Larry McMurtry was born on June 3, 1936 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Novelist, essayist, and screenwriter for film and television, McMurtry sets most of his works in the West. He grew up on a ranch on the outskirts of Archer City, Texas and studied at North Texas State University and Rice University. His first novel, Hud the Wild (1961) immediately sparked the interest of critics and won the Jesse M. Jones Award from the Texas Institute of Letters (1962) and the Guggenheim Fellowship (1964). In 1985, he won the Pulitzer Prize for his novel Lonesome Dove. Author of twenty-five novels, two essay collections, an autobiographical text, and more than thirty screenplays, McMurtry is best known for the masterful film adaptations of some of his novels: in 1963 Hud starring Paul Newman and in 1971 The Last Picture Show, Peter Bogdanovich's masterpiece. In 2006, McMurtry was awarded the Golden Globe and the Oscar for the screenplay of Brokeback Mountain. He currently lives in Archer City, Texas.

This is a fine Spanish edition - good size print and nicely done and the price was reasonable too , particularly having regard to how few places sell the work in Spanish. The translation by Marta Lila Murillo,seems to me so far, to be very faithful to the English edition.I won't comment on the work itself as i have not read enough yet but I am a big fan of McMurty's Lonesome Dove and the style is similar.
