La ambición es el rasgo fundamental del carácter de Macbeth y del de su esposa, y se convierte en la causa que les llevará al desastre; aparece estrechamente ligado a la traición y al crimen, que se ponen de manifiesto primero en el infame asesinato del rey, del que era un fiel vasallo hasta entonces, y después en el de su noble confidente y buen amigo, Banquo. El sentimiento de culpa se manifiesta a lo largo de la obra, a través de diversas visiones que sufre el matrimonio. No pueden deshacerse del remordimiento y la responsabilidad que les persigue y les recuerda sus actos. Lady Macbeth no lo resiste y termina suicidándose. Macbeth se queda solo para afrontar su destino. Las profecías de las brujas juegan su papel, se vuelven contra él y nos adentran en un mundo oscuro y fantasmagórico, en el que el miedo y la discordia surgen a cada momento.

William Shakespeare (Stratford-upon-Avon, c. April 23, 1564jul. - Ibid., April 23/May 3, 1616) was an English playwright, poet, and actor. Often known as the Bard of Avon (or simply the Bard), he is considered the most important writer in the English language and one of the most famous in world literature.

Among his most notable works are Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. His ability to portray the complexities of human nature, along with his mastery in the use of verse and language, has made him a timeless figure.
