Synopsis "magnolia caf"

When Jack Teal walks out of a Texas prison, his home for over three years, he collects his hidden cash and sets out to continue his former life. On his way to San Diego, he meets a head strong woman who throws his plans into turmoil. Abruptly, he changes his plans and drives to Northern California where he reconnects with an old friend, a restaurant owner dedicated to giving his employees a chance at success. At Magnolia Café most of the staff is comprised of young people trying to survive hardscrabble lives, facing the daily challenges of mental illness and society's repudiation of their worth. It is here that Jack discovers the part of his life that was missing; kindness, concern for others, and self respect. Chic Gast's compelling novel, Magnolia Café, is tender and gritty, joyful and contemplative. It is a profound reminder that life can go in many directions, and some of these directions can lead us to that magical place that redefines our very purpose.
