Synopsis "Maimonides's Yahweh"

The life of Moshe ben Maimon (Maimonides) remains a mystery to many within evangelical Christianity. However, he is lauded as a second Moses by many within modern Judaism. Does he deserve that title? Maimonides's via negativa created a rationale for rejecting the messiahship claims of Jesus in Rabbinic Judaism. Therefore, this book seeks to illustrate that Maimonides, in his desire to create an anti-Christian apologetic regarding the incarnation, fashioned a Judaism that does not reflect the truths of the Tanakh (Old Testament) and developed a Judaism that was untenable for the Jewish people of the twenty-first century. Many Jewish people today are turning in a thousand and one different directions for spiritual answers, but not in the only way that will offer the way to God: Jesus of Nazareth (John 14:6). This work examines the history of Maimonides, his teachings, and an apologetic approach to bring the gospel back to the Jewish people (Rom 1:16). ""Amy Downey has devoted her lifelong research to the study of Judaism. Investigating a chief foundation for Jewish thinking, she examines the via negativa approach in the major Jewish philosopher Maimonides and his critique of the Christian doctrine of the incarnation. Amy's text provides an excellent evaluation and I consider it to be must reading."" --Gary R. Habermas, Distinguished Research Professor & Chair, Dept. of Philosophy, Liberty University ""I not only have the esteemed pleasure to call Dr. Amy Downey a colleague but more importantly a friend. Dr. Downey brings a unique blend of scholarly knowledge and passionate concern for the lost in her missionary work. Her zeal for the Jewish people is seen in her book Maimonides' Yahweh. I not only highly recommend this book, but I also highly recommend your support of Tzedakah Ministries."" --Brian G. Chilton, Senior Pastor, Westfield Baptist Church, Westfield, NC Amy Karen Downey is the president/director of Tzedakah Ministries, which seeks to equip Christians and churches to reach Jewish people with the gospel of the Messiah Jesus. She is also the author of Paul's Conundrum and the first woman to receive a PhD in apologetics and theology from Liberty University (2016).
