Synopsis "Mandala (in German)"

Das Wort »Mandala« heißt »Kreis«. Ein Mandala ist eine meist kreisförmige Gestaltung, die auf ein Zentrum hin ausgerichtet ist. Mandalas sind weltweit zu finden und haben häufig eine spirituelle Bedeutung. Bekannt sind etwa die kunstvollen tibetischen Mandalas, die die Einheit und Harmonie des Kosmos verkörpern. Als Symbole der Mitte und Ganzheit tauchen Mandalas immer dann aus dem Unbewussten auf - etwa in Träumen oder beim Malen im therapeutischen Prozess -, wenn die Psyche der Ordnung und Zentrierung bedarf. C. G. Jung spricht hier von einem »Selbstheilungsversuch der Natur«. Dieser Klassiker enthält Aufsätze und Kommentare von C. G. Jung zu Mandalas. Einige von ihnen wurden von einer seiner Patientinnen nach einer Traumserie gemalt. Andere Abbildungen geben einen beeindruckenden Einblick in die Vielfalt von Mandalas unterschiedlicher Zeiten und Kulturen.

Carl Gustav Jung was born in July 1875 in Kesswil, Switzerland, into a very religious family. He was a withdrawn and lonely child, who spent much of his childhood unable to relate to brothers or sisters. Partly because of this, he used to play with elements of nature and used his imagination to weave extravagant narrative lines about everything he experienced.

However, the unusual mental associations and the symbolism that populated young Jung's mind did not limit their reign to the hours he was awake. Jung began very early to have very vivid dreams with a strong symbolic charge. And, as expected from someone who dedicated a large part of his career to studying dreams, at least one of these dreams marked him for life.
