ऋषीय कार्याची अतुलनीय, अलौकिक, खडतर परंपरा तितक्याच सामर्थ्याने पेलणारे मांदार्य अर्थात अगस्त्य ऋषी. ऋषी परंपरेची धुरा समर्थपणे वाहताना मांदार्यांनी समाज-उत्थान, आश्रमीय जीवनपद्धतीची आखणी, स्व-सामर्थ्याच्या आधारे राक्षसांचा निःपात अशी लक्षणीय कार्यं केली. त्याचबरोबर राम-रावण युद्धात आवश्यक अशी 'ऋषीय-भूमिका'देखील निभावली. त्यांनी तमीळ भाषेला पुनरुज्जीवित केलं. दिव्य अशा 'नाडीग्रंथा'ची निर्मिती केली. अगस्त्य ऋषींचा हा जीवनपट वाचता-वाचता वाचकांना त्यांच्या विराट रूपाची कल्पना येत जाते. मांदार्यांनी क्वचितप्रसंगी 'शस्त्र'ही हाती धरलं; पण त्यांचा संपूर्ण भर होता तो 'विचार-शस्त्रावर'! अगस्त्य ऋषींचे विचार-शस्त्र हे आजच्या काळातही प्रत्येकानं अनुसरावं आणि त्याआधारे स्व-कल्याण साधावं असंच आहे.
