Nacida el 19 de enero de 1946 en el condado de Sevier, Tennessee, Dolly Rebecca Parton creció en una familia humilde, siendo una de doce hijos, en una pequeña casa de una sola habitación enclavada en las Montañas Humeantes del este de Tennessee. A lo largo de su carrera, Dolly se inspiró constantemente en su profundo aprecio y amor por el lugar y la gente que la vio crecer. Vivió una infancia sencilla, persiguiendo la belleza de las mariposas, escuchando el folclore de los Apalaches y antiguas baladas transmitidas por sus familiares.
