Lauren Pecorino nació en la ciudad de Nueva York. Obtuvo su doctorado en Biología Celular y del Desarrollo en la Universidad Estatal de Nueva York en Stony Brook. Cruzó el Atlántico para realizar una estancia postdoctoral en el Instituto Ludwig para la Investigación del Cáncer, Londres. Es profesora (Biología del Cáncer) en la Universidad de Greenwich. Aquí desarrolló un curso llamado: Biología del Cáncer y Terapéutica. La enseñanza de este curso la motivó a escribir el libro de texto universitario llamado "La Biología Molecular del Cáncer: Mecanismos, Objetivos y Terapéutica", publicado por Oxford University Press. El libro es único en el sentido de que cada capítulo vincula la biología básica del cáncer con su aplicación al desarrollo de nuevas terapias, un área que motiva a los estudiantes a aprender. También traduce vías importantes en diagramas fáciles de entender. El texto ha sido traducido a varios idiomas y ahora se encuentra en su quinta edición.
