Synopsis "New York in the Revolution"

By: Berthold Fernow, Pub. 1887, reprinted 2025, 650 pages, soft cover, Index, ISBN #978-1-63914-682-6. This book is divided into four parts. The first part covers the proceedings of the Provincial Congress, Committee of Safety, and the Convention of New York relating to military matters. The Second part covers the members of the New York Line of the Continental Army, which is arranged by regiment and thereunder by company, giving the soldier's name, date of enlistment, term of enlistment, and date discharged, deserted, deceased, etc. The Third part is a listing of Levies and Militia, arranged by county and then by regiment. In most instances these rosters indicate the date the regiment was formed and the names of its officers and enlisted men. The Fourth part list approximately 40,000 soldiers in Alphabetical order of State Troops. This roster indicates the soldier's name, rank, regiment, and company, with an extra data concerning things as when/where enlisted, wounded, frostbitten, captured by Indians, and etc... This is followed by an Appendix which includes such things as: lists of wounded, invalid pension recipients, and accounts of the services of some Levies and Militia. The index mentions approximately 11,500 persons that were not in the alphabetical order listing of State Troops.
