All three of us. Tide's right. Love you. That was the last message from Nico Sayre, the tech founder who promised no one would ever be out of reach again. A four-billion-dollar deal stalls. A true crime podcast turns the search into a national obsession. She knows the tide was coming in when that message was sent, not going out. She knows three grown men don't go into the sea together unless they're holding on to each other. And when the bodies surface days and miles apart, she knows something else. They didn't die together. And only one of them was supposed to die at all. Then a man the whole country believes is dead leaves his daughter a forty-one-second voicemail. Somewhere inside that recording is the truth about what happened on the black rocks at Tallow Cove. But the closer Ruth gets, the more the case circles back to the people she trusts most, and to a secret the sea has been keeping for a long time.Only One Was Dead is a gripping, atmospheric psychological thriller about friendship, mercy, and the lies we tell to protect the people we love.
