Synopsis "Permanent Revisable Imprisonment"

With the entry into force of the LO 1/2015, of 30 March, many modifications have been made to the Penal Code, however, one of the most relevant has been the introduction of the permanent revisable prison sentence. The instant follow-up of cases such as Marta del Castillo, Gabriel, Laura Luelmo, Julen, etc., have caused society to empathise more with the suffering of the victims, and increased their sense of insecurity due to the violence of these types of events. All of this has led the population to demand greater action by the criminal justice system. The legislator has not ignored the opinion of the majority of citizens and this has been expressed in the Preamble (I) of the LO 1/2015, in which it has stated that "the need to strengthen confidence in the Administration of Justice makes it necessary to make available a legal system that guarantees predictable judicial decisions that are also perceived by society as fair", and with this objective "permanent revisable prison is introduced for those extremely serious crimes, in which citizens demanded a penalty proportional to the act committed".
