El cine documental, dispositivo emblem tico de la relaci¢n f¡lmica con una realidad considerada simple, ha experimentado, durante las£ltimas d‚cadas, una dr stica transformaci¢n de sus par metrosfundamentales, al tenerse que enfrentar con una realidad compleja,transitada cada vez m s, por innumerables tecnolog¡as de laimaginaci¢n en un marco global. Se impone la tarea de teorizar lastransformaciones ontol¢gicas, est‚ticas y epistemol¢gicas que hanllevado a la aparici¢n de un nuevo cine de lo real, cuyas producciones han modificado radicalmente el documentalismo cl sico, al abrirse ala exploraci¢n de campos como los de la subjetividad, las emociones yel pensamiento que no formaban parte del imaginario t¡pico deldocumental cl sico. El posdocumental se ha desarrollado a trav‚s deuna serie de giros que corresponden a los nuevos intereses deldocumentalismo en constante renovaci¢n.

Josep María Català Domènech (Tarragona, 1946) is an emeritus professor of Audiovisual Communication, recognized for his contribution to the study of the image and documentary. PhD in Communication Sciences from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and a graduate in Modern and Contemporary History from the University of Barcelona, he also earned a Master's in Film Theory from San Francisco State University in California. He has served as dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences at the UAB and has directed the Master's in Theory and Practice of Creative Documentary.

Among his most notable publications are "La violación de la mirada" (1993), "La imagen compleja" (2005), and "El murmullo de las imágenes. Imaginación, documental y silencio" (2012). These works, belonging to the genre of academic essay, explore the theory of the image and documentary. Català has been awarded the Fundesco Essay Prize and the essay prize of the XXVII Literary Contest of the city of Irún, among other recognitions.
