Humanity believes time is measured in years. The civilizations beyond Earth know otherwise. Somehow though they are advancing towards a milestone it should not reach for thousands of years. The calculations are impossible. The projections contradict everything known about galactic development. Yet every observation points to the same conclusion: Humanity is ahead of schedule; Earth is a true anomaly. To investigate, Scout, a young biomechanical Scuttle and her companion Rover, is sent to Earth. Scuttles are created from living tissue, advanced machinery, and synthetic intelligence, existing somewhere between organism and machine. Her mission is simple: determine why humanity's future refuses to follow the Calendar. But Earth proves far more complicated than expected. After meeting Rowan and his 2 dogs Dax and Bella she becomes immersed in his life and the lives of his two best friends Ben and John. Scout begins experiencing humanity firsthand rather than through distant observation. What begins as a scientific investigation gradually becomes a journey of friendship, discovery, belonging, and love. As impossible discoveries begin to surface and long buried truths emerge, Scout realizes humanity's place in the universe may be far greater than anyone imagined.
