Sensible Summons - C Lowry

She inherited a haunted hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel came with a ghost, a magical cat, and an ancient evil trying to get inside.

Missy Due has spent twenty years being sensible.

She has a boring job, a failing relationship, a nearly-dead car, and absolutely no intention of believing in the magic her great-aunt Clementine tried to teach her when she was fifteen.

Then Clementine dies.

And Missy inherits The Dusty Rose Hotel & Curio Shoppe in the tiny desert town of Due, California.

There’s only one problem.

The hotel is magical.

The coffee maker makes its own coffee. The pipes hum show tunes. The rooms have opinions. A ghost named Mrs. Pemberton has been haunting the place since 1912-and she’s deeply unimpressed with Missy’s housekeeping skills.

Then Missy discovers the truth.

The Dusty Rose is protected by ancient magical wards. For decades, Clementine kept an ancient darkness trapped beyond them. Now the wards are failing.

And Missy is the only witch who can repair them.

The problem?

She doesn’t know how to use magic.

She barely knows how to run a hotel.

And something in the desert has already noticed that she’s come home.

With the help of a cranky Victorian ghost, a mysterious two-colored cat, a hardware-store witch, a bookshop owner, and a small-town community that refuses to let her face danger alone, Missy must learn to control the magic buried inside her before the ancient shadow breaks through.

But the deeper she digs into Clementine’s secrets, the more she realizes that her great-aunt didn’t simply leave her a hotel.

She left her a mystery.

A dangerous one.
